Book now! We can help you with information about Kona and the Big Island to make your fishing experience the best. See you on board.

The Kona Coast is one of the premier fishing destinations in the world. With the fishing grounds merely a t-shot off the shore, you can be fishing within minutes of casting off. The Big Island of Hawaii has 50 miles of leeward coastline forming what I refer to as "God's Pond" without a doubt the calmest big game waters in the world. The location of the Big Island places you right in the middle of the migration routes taken by the Pacific Blue Marlin as they follow the schools of Skipjack Tuna through the island chain.

Kona offers a year-round fishery with Blue, Black and Striped Marlin landed almost every day of the year. For those of you traveling to Kona for big game fishing, summer months are best. From June through September, we take in the largest numbers of our yearly big game catch.

GREAT FISHING ALL YEAR

Starting with the winter and spring seasons, it is possible to encounter three different species of billfish on any given day. The Blue Marlin can range anywhere from 90 to 1,000 pounds. The Striped Marlin run from 20 to 120 pounds and present a perfect opportunity for the avid fly fisherman in the lighter tippet classes. The Shortbill Spearfish - rarest of all billfish - can be found during the winter and spring seasons, with the strongest presence early in the year and in late April and May. Dolphin spice up the catch throughout winter and spring.

Mike Banks and his 1144 lb Pacific Blue Marlin

In May, the Yellowfin Tuna or "Ahi" start to appear with the extremely large Blue Marlin not far behind. Once the summer fishing is in full swing, one can expect to encounter Blue Marlin on a daily basis well into September.

Built in 1992 by Rybovich Boatworks of West Palm Beach, Florida, this boat maintains the finest traditions of the name. She is 39 feet in length and has brand new in 2005: 6108 Lugger Diesel 410 hp engines, she tops out at 28 knots, and cruises at 22. With many large blue marlin and ultra light records to her credit, there is no doubt about her abilities. Designed for comfort, her ride and handling are superior.

We Tag and Release
On June 22, 2006 angler John Angus tagged and released a Blue Marlin which was much bigger than the 1049 lb fish weighed in March 2006

Proving that there is nothing to good for our customers. We have recently upgraded our entire arsenal to feature all new DUEL reels from 2 lb to 130 lb. We also have your fly fishing needs covered with Orvis, Towe and Loomis rods with matching Orvis and Billy Pate reels.

Dave Linkiewicz's striped marlin on flyrod

Men, women and children, whether they are novices or world-class anglers, can fish with great success. Our client Mike Banks, on his very first morning of deep sea fishing, landed Sea Genie II's largest Blue Marlin to date, weighing 1,144 pounds. We pride ourselves on sharing our knowledge and techniques of the sport with our clients.

Captain Gene Vanderhoek has been fishing Kona waters since 1970. He has 31 world records to his credit on light, ultra-light and flyrod tackle as well as many tournament wins and placings. Gene landed two ultra-light world records as the angler, and is a member of the IGFA's 5, 10, and 15 to 1 clubs. Gene also has landed more "granders" than any other Captain in Kona.

Night Catch

Sea Genie II offers versatility, using a combination of trolling techniques during the day and drift-fishing at night. Over the course of the year, we may troll artificial lures, live baits, a combination of teasers and lures for bait and switch, or just teasers for fly fishing.

Although we enjoy fishing as a great sport, we believe in tagging our catches so we may contribute to knowledge of the ocean and expand the available populations of gamefish.

Capt. Gene Vanderhoek's 3rd Grander - weight 1049 pounds caught by Tommy Werner on March 16, 2006, giving Capt. Gene the distinction of being the only Captain in the history of Kona sportfishing to ever land three Pacific Blue Marlin Granders.
